Miami Beach weighing signal fixes, university study to tame congested 63rd/Indian Creek/Collins intersection

He also described plans to pursue a comprehensive, multimodal study; staff have identified the University of Texas at Austin as a preferred consultant to analyze behavior, multimodal safety and network-level alternatives, subject to procurement and funding (staff said federal grants might help defray costs).
Residents and commissioners described repeated overnight speed crashes and truck routing concerns on nearby Alton Road. Several speakers urged the city to explore speed enforcement, truck route limits and targeted traffic-calming or signal changes; staff noted FDOT and county jurisdiction over some elements and said additional study and county coordination would be necessary. The committee asked staff to brief the county on the pilot findings within about 30 days, proceed with procurement steps for the university study, and prepare a referral on Alton Road traffic issues for a future meeting.
