Commissioners discuss search‑and‑rescue vehicle grant prospects and IT subscription costs
Summary
Staff described a federal vehicle grant request (~$332,000 for four vehicles), cautioned that awarded funds must be spent within a fiscal year and warned against purchasing vehicles in expectation of reimbursement; commissioners also flagged a roughly $20,000 IT placeholder and Office 365 operational subscription costs.

Commissioners reviewed equipment placeholders for search‑and‑rescue and other county needs and discussed grant timing and budgeting for IT operations.
Commissioner noted that the county typically includes $10,000 for Search and Rescue equipment and that staff submitted a federal request for four vehicles (~$332,000). Kristen said the federal request has legislative sponsors and that only one sponsor will carry the appropriation, and she cautioned that federal funds, if awarded, must be obligated within one fiscal year. "Do not purchase the vehicles thinking you're gonna get the funding," Kristen advised.
On IT, staff reported a rough $20,000 placeholder for a currently unspecified IT capital need and said migration to Office 365 in July will create subscription costs that should be budgeted in operations rather than capital. Commissioners agreed to track subscription costs as part of the operating budget.
What happens next: staff will await grant results and avoid purchasing vehicles in anticipation of reimbursement; IT subscription costs will be built into the operations budget.
