Staff said the project is supported by the city’s comprehensive plan for wayfinding and brand guidance but that no construction funding is currently budgeted. Daniel (TDA chair) told council the TDA’s enabling law and local rules permit use of tourism funds for capital projects that drive tourism; the TDA board is willing to consider partnering and contributing to design costs. Staff and the TDA discussed roughly six potential sign locations at main arterial entrances and noted early, preliminary per‑sign cost estimates in the tens of thousands of dollars; an initial design engagement with a vendor was described as a few thousand dollars in preliminary discussion.
Council suggested forming a small joint committee of one or two council members and one or two TDA representatives, plus staff, to develop concepts and return with staged recommendations and a timeline; no formal appropriation or construction vote was taken. Staff will bring back a proposed committee membership and a recommended process, with options for funding and procurement to be presented in future meetings.
