At a special meeting the Sierra Vista Unified District Governing Board voted 3–0 to approve presenting the proposed fiscal year 2026–2027 budget to the public and to hold a public hearing on June 30 at 5:30 p.m., to be followed immediately by a special meeting at 6:00 p.m. to consider adoption.
Administration recommended approval and Mr. Miller, the district representative, read the statutory requirement under ARS 15-905B that a district must set a time and public place for a budget hearing and present the proposed budget to residents and taxpayers at that hearing. "Pursuant to ARS 15-905B, the governing board of each school district shall prepare a notice fixing a time not later than July 15th and designating a public place..." Mr. Miller said.
During discussion a board member raised fiscal concerns about the district's practice of transferring funds between accounts. "They're very concerned about us transferring all the monies that $2 million from the DAA over to O&M," the board member said, noting the state audit had flagged repeated transfers and recommending fiscal caution and a consultant review of personnel allocations to prepare for potential shortfalls. Mr. Archer said he had no additional comments.
A staff member told the public the budget presentation is available via the district livestream and that the proposed budget document is posted on the business office page and at the district's official meeting-notice locations for review ahead of the hearing.
With no further discussion, the board approved the motion to present the proposed budget to the public, then separately voted 3–0 to accept the June 30 hearing date and time. The meeting adjourned after those votes.
The next procedural step is the public hearing on June 30 at 5:30 p.m., followed by the special meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the district's regular meeting location, where the board may consider adopting the FY 2026–2027 budget.
