Resident raises accessibility concerns at Deer Meadow; council points to park vision plan

A resident at Tuesday's Moraine City Council meeting urged the council to add more accessible benches and to address deteriorating docks at Deer Meadow, saying "the docks are bad."

The resident asked whether seating could be added closer to where people with mobility limitations could use it and expressed concern that current benches sit on a steep embankment and are difficult to access. "I would like to see a couple benches," the resident said.

Council members responded that dock replacement and related improvements are included in the Deer Meadow vision plan and that timing depends on the plan's phased implementation. The chair said they would "find out for you" what year dock replacement appears in the plan and acknowledged the challenge presented by the site's embankment, citing examples from other jurisdictions where embankments were regraded to improve access.

Council members also raised the possibility of future restroom facilities at Deer Meadow, but no schedule or funding details were provided during the meeting. The council did not take formal action at this session; instead, members directed staff to check the vision plan's phasing and report back.
