Moraine Council previews expanded July 3–4 'Star-Spangled Boom,' asks for volunteers

The Moraine City Council on Tuesday detailed plans for a larger Fourth of July celebration the council is billing as the "Star-Spangled Boom," asking members and residents to sign up to volunteer for shifts and to nominate patriotic yards for judging.
Chair called the meeting to order and walked through the schedule for the two-day event. "July 3rd will be the first day... it will start at 6:00 p.m., which will be the carnival rides or inflatables and those kind of things and food trucks," the chair said, adding that the evening will feature Hotel California on a 32-foot stage and a Jumbotron. The chair said council has arranged a flyover by the United States Air Force timed near the national anthem and that fireworks will conclude the night at 10:00 p.m.
The council encouraged members and residents to volunteer in shifts rather than for the entire day. "If you guys want to be there and volunteer that night, 5:30 would probably be the best time to come," the chair said, and asked members to reply to an email with availability so staff (Deonna) can coordinate scheduling.
Programming for July 4 begins at noon with carnival attractions and food trucks, a 1 p.m. kids magic show, a 3 p.m. extreme trampoline show, a 4 p.m. character meet-and-greet, a 5 p.m. children's watermelon-eating contest and a 6 p.m. adults' pie-eating contest; the band Stranger is scheduled as the later headline act.
The council also announced patriotic beautification activities: judging will occur between June 29 and July 2, and members were asked to send addresses of decorated properties for consideration. The chair said awards or recognition will be determined, and that maps and information will be provided to volunteers.
The events are part of a broader America 250 calendar of activities the council highlighted, including "Liberty Rocks" (June 1–July 1), a Betsy Ross Craft Fest on July 18 and a National Night Out/Americana movie night Aug. 4.
The council encouraged residents to follow the city's Facebook page and Parks and Recreation website for updates, and said staff will circulate details and volunteer sign-up instructions by email. The meeting adjourned routine business with the council setting its next meeting for Aug. 18, 2026.
