Commissioners used the June 17 meeting to review recent outreach and to coordinate a slate of summer and fall community events. Town staff and commissioners described participation in local and regional Pride activities, plans for Juneteenth and Make Music Day, the Indian cultural festival date and a tentative unity event in September.
Dana, a town staff member supporting the commission, said the Rocky Hill Pride event on June 3 "went well" and estimated "several hundred" people attended during peak periods across the two‑hour event window. Commissioners discussed ordering additional 'Rocky Hill for All' lawn‑sign designs — flag colors, pride colors and community‑specific variants — and noted volunteer design resources to create multiple versions for distribution at upcoming events.
Erin Mack reported on the commission’s presence at the Middletown Pride parade: roughly a dozen Rocky Hill marchers carried a banner and giveaways. She noted broad visibility for the town at the larger festival and cited online attendance estimates she had seen of about 20,000–22,000 for the overall Middletown event.
Commissioners confirmed logistical details for an upcoming Juneteenth celebration scheduled for Elm Ridge Park (6–8 p.m. the following day), including food trucks, a band and a commission table staffed by several members. The commission also set an October 24 date for the Indian cultural festival at the Community Center (the event is being reframed from 'Diwali' to include multiple Indian cultural celebrations) and flagged the Italian Fest for Oct. 3–4.
On public art, commissioners noted that the town council approved two decorative crosswalks: dinosaur‑footprint artwork leading to the library and a pride crosswalk across the community center parking area; installation and celebration dates will be announced once finalized.
Finally, the commission penciled in a unity event tentatively for Sept. 19. Members discussed possible formats — facilitated 'walk a mile' conversations, movement or art activities, tabling and vendor participation — and agreed to validate the date against the town calendar before confirming and assigning planning tasks to subcommittees.
No public comments were offered during the meeting’s public‑comment period, and commissioners adjourned shortly after 6:22 p.m.
