Megan O'Brien McNamara was elected chair of the Rocky Hill Commission on Inclusion and Innovation during the commission’s June 17 meeting, and Dea Shadowfax was elected vice chair. Commissioners also welcomed newly appointed Commissioner Brian Donahue and approved routine meeting minutes.
Outgoing chair Tom Kosker opened the meeting at 5:31 p.m. and announced that he would step down as chair. "I am stepping down as commissioner chair," he said, thanking members for their service and urging continuity as leadership transitions. A commissioner nominated Megan O'Brien McNamara; the nomination was seconded and approved by the commission (recorded in the meeting as a unanimous voice vote: "six, nothing").
After the chair vote the commission accepted nominations for vice chair. A commissioner nominated Dea Shadowfax; that nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote (the chair recorded the tally as six in favor). Commissioners welcomed the new leaders and passed the gavel to McNamara for the remainder of the meeting.
The meeting also acknowledged Brian Donahue’s recent appointment to the commission by the town council. Commissioners welcomed Donahue as a full member who will serve as an alternate for votes when needed.
Procedural motions taken earlier in the meeting included an amendment to the agenda to add several old business items and the acceptance of the prior meeting minutes. A motion to accept the minutes was made, seconded and approved; the minutes were accepted with one abstention noted in the record.
Next steps recorded by commissioners included a bylaw review led by a small subcommittee and confirmation of standing meeting dates: subcommittee meetings will be held the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Elevator Room, and full commission meetings are listed on the agenda for Aug. 26 and Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m.
No public commenters spoke during the allotted public comment period, and the meeting adjourned shortly after 6:22 p.m.
