The DOT’s winter‑readiness program will provide $1,000 per truck upfront; staff said that incentive would cover initial units and that the state has reimbursed telematics costs previously.
The county tested Geotab and Samsara during the winter and found Samsara’s demonstrations to be user-friendly; staff recommended an initial conversion of 10 trucks now, with broader fleet contracts under consideration for 40–50 vehicles in a longer-term contract to achieve better monthly pricing. A motion to proceed with Samsara devices for the initial set of vehicles passed; Supervisor Shackleton seconded the motion as recorded in discussion.
