RHAM and local BOE budgets show mid-single-digit increases; capital projects noted

Will Guzman, liaison to the RHAM Board of Education, told the Board the RHAM budget under preparation is $34.176 million, a 4.77% increase that includes about $500,000 for capital projects of which $424,000 is for a new loading dock. Guzman said salary and health insurance premiums are key drivers and that a targeted $800,000 reduction results from deferred costs; enrollment is expected to be stable and the town breakdown will be based on enrollment.
Ken Hjulstrom reported on the local Board of Education budget, which is currently showing a 3.57% increase. Capital expenditures are up $135,000 to $210,000, primarily for demolition and replacement of a rear entry. Hjulstrom said salary and benefits account for about $85,000 of the increase, a 15% placeholder is being used for insurance premiums, and future bonding for HVAC remains under discussion. He also flagged immediate repairs needed for water leaks and said enrollment declines could affect state funding.
