Resident questions higher tax bill; board review finds comparable parcel difference

Resident Brian Carver raised a concern at the Oct. 6 meeting about why his property taxes were significantly higher than a nearby property with a similar structure. Carver said his neighbor had more acreage, which he believed explained the difference.
Lynne reviewed town property records for surrounding parcels during the meeting and explained that the neighbor Carver cited actually owns more than one parcel. The lot Carver referenced was not the parcel that contained the neighbor's house and full acreage; when the correct comparable parcel is used the tax assessments are consistent with comparables, Lynne told the board and Carver.
The minutes record this explanation but do not indicate a formal appeal was filed or that additional action was taken at the meeting.
