Commission approves small change order on Gillig buses and moves on several consent items

At its June 18 meeting, the Waukesha City Transit Commission approved a proposed change order to its 2027 bus purchase from Gillig LLC that adds standard components for parts consistency and an electronic steering-assist safety option. Staff said the steering-assist feature improves turning performance and the change raises the per-bus cost by about $4,500, which staff characterized as less than 1% of the total bus cost. The commission voted to approve the change order.
The commission also unanimously approved the minutes of May 21 and voted to approve a 2026 paratransit aid agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to fund Metrolift. Staff said the paratransit funding rose about 5%, roughly $4,000, to a total shown in the packet as $91,209.
Staff noted one item (7B), an operating assistance contract from WisDOT, was held because the city had not yet received the contract and the city attorney advised the commission could not act without the agreement.
All votes on the items covered during this segment were recorded as unanimous in the meeting minutes; recorded votes lists included O'Donnell, Kevin Riley, Joe Piper and Kylie Mickleitz voting in favor where individual names were read aloud.
