Sewer board approves May financial report; operations staff notes connection fees and testing costs

Staff explained receipts included a roughly $4,300 connection fee (Winyah) and contractual services charges such as Pine Canyon monthly fees and work by Westlers. Sample testing by Pace Analytical (laboratories in Farmersburg and Madisonville, Ky.) was listed under contractual services and staff said testing this quarter included toxicity and heavy-metal samples; another heavy-metal sample was being collected that day.
During operations discussion a resident raised an odor complaint at the Scotland Road lift station. Operations staff said the problem may stem from hydrogen sulfide (H2S) buildup that corrodes control components and that specialized ionizing equipment can mitigate the gas but can cost about $45,000. Staff said visual inspections of the lift station occur monthly and suggested adjusting float settings to reduce standing time in the wet well as a low-cost short-term measure; staff offered to inspect Scotland Road that day.
The board moved, seconded and approved the financial report by voice vote.
