Greene County commissioners defer review of assessor's single reassessment bid from Tyler Technologies

Greene County commissioners on Monday heard a single bid from Tyler Technologies for the county assessor's reassessment contract and voted to delay final action for two weeks so commissioners could complete their review.

The chair introduced the item as the assessor's reassessment-bid package and noted the county received only one submission from Tyler Technologies. A speaker read the bid as a total of 991,000 with a phase breakdown described in the packet: Phase 1, 234,000; Phase 2, 24,290; Phase 3, 25,120; and Phase 4, 263,790, with the amounts presented as monthly installments.

During questioning, a commissioner asked, "Are you happy with Tyler's performance?" The assessor or staff responded that the current contract technically ends in May but that the county has a grace period through September to complete the reassessment cycle, which influenced commissioners' desire for additional review time.

Commissioner Michael asked for two weeks to review the single bid and the commission agreed to bring the motion to defer back at the next regular meeting; the chair called for the vote and the motion passed by voice.

Why it matters: A reassessment contract determines how property values are updated and can affect tax assessments across the county. Commissioners said they wanted adequate time to review the single bid and confirm scope, schedule and costs before awarding the contract.
