Board approves professional learning master plan to expand mentoring and micro‑credentials

The ROCKWOOD R‑VI Board approved the district’s Professional Learning Master Plan for 2026–27 during its June 24 meeting, adopting a framework staff say will expand mentorship, refine new‑teacher supports and increase alignment across district professional development.
Dr. Kerry Skeeters told the board the plan includes a rebranded New Educator Summit to replace a one‑size‑fits‑all new‑teacher orientation, strengthened mentor training, more shadowing opportunities for teachers considering leadership roles and expanded, aligned district professional development time. She reported 110 new hires attended orientation this year, 152 mentors were registered and 154 micro‑credentials were earned by 46 educators across the district.
‘‘We are strengthening our mentorship program,’’ Dr. Skeeters said, and described changes intended to retain early‑career teachers and provide clearer pathways for professional advancement. Board members asked about micro‑credential uptake and whether the district has sufficient opportunities; staff said participation will expand in coming months after structural improvements completed this year.
The board moved, seconded and approved the master plan by voice vote. Staff will implement mentor training enhancements, update the PD committee’s vision and return with progress updates and participation data.
