Mayor: Orrville recovery nearly four weeks after flash flood; city concludes dumpster program and coordinates aid

Mayor Plybon told the council on Sept. 3 that the resilience of Orrville residents and businesses is evident almost four weeks after a flash flood. The mayor announced the city is concluding its dumpster program and said staff are meeting with United Way and the Salvation Army to develop assistance plans for residents who incurred flood-related expenses.
Safety-Service Director Wheeler said emergency work on a railroad culvert was completed and gave special recognition to city engineer Abbie Wilson for organizing and completing the repair rapidly. Wheeler also noted a one-day delay in trash pickup for the holiday and reported that Officer Chrapowicki was one of four finalists for the Mental Health CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) officer of the year award.
Utilities Director Brediger reported the sewer department is continuing camera-and-jet follow-up work after the flood. He said the city's natural gas aggregation renewal in November is for a two-year fixed price of $4.12 per MCF, compared with more than $6.00 per MCF last year; he referenced online rate comparison resources such as the Apples to Apples website for residents evaluating options.
OPWC bids were opened and the low bid was awarded to Vasco; a pre-construction meeting is scheduled for the week following the Sept. 3 meeting. DOT pavement-marking work has been advertised for bid opening next week using remaining funds from a 2006 bypass project earmark (Ralph Regula).
