Orrville — The Orrville City Council on Oct. 7 adopted Resolution 29-24 authorizing the Board of Control to purchase a Vacall All Jet P Series vacuum truck through Southeastern Equipment Company Inc. as an emergency purchase.
Wastewater Superintendent Steve Carathers told the council the truck had been included in the 2025 budget at about $600,000 but a prior buyer backed out and the supplier offered the vehicle earlier than planned. "We will save roughly $50,000 and more truck volume than we planned," Carathers said, adding the truck can be used by distribution and service departments and would arrive this month. City staff indicated 2024 and 2025 projects would be reprioritized and an appropriation change would be brought forward.
Council suspended the normal three-reading requirement and adopted the resolution as read; Squirrell moved to suspend rules and Lax seconded, and later Squirrell moved adoption with Shanklin seconding. The motion passed on a voice vote (all ayes).
Why it matters: The purchase accelerates a planned capital acquisition and is intended to increase utility maintenance capacity (line cleaning and hydro excavation) sooner than originally budgeted.
