Commission hears updates on bypass lift station, leftover grant purchases and gas line cleanup

Staff updated the Leitchfield Utilities Commission on June 18 that the bypass lift station and collection project funded by Kentucky Infrastructure Cleaner Water grant funds is complete and that remaining grant money was used to purchase two trucks: a tractor truck (already reimbursed) and a dump truck (pending final expenditure and reimbursement).

"There are still funds left over and so those funds that were left over David and the commission have been able to buy two different trucks," a staff presenter said. He added the commission is awaiting about $50,000 in invoices before the final drawdown and closeout of the grant-funded project.

Commissioners also discussed a gas line replacement project that has taken longer than expected. A resident and a client had raised concerns at a prior meeting about the pace and yard cleanup. Staff said they spoke with the contractor and the contractor planned to bring an additional crew on Monday to complete cleanup on Wallace. The commission said further work on the next section would not proceed until cleanup is satisfactory to residents and staff.

The commission set a tentative date of July 16 to visit the raw water intake after the July 16 meeting because low lake levels made an immediate site visit unsafe.

Next steps: staff will submit outstanding pump invoices to secure roughly $50,000 reimbursement and will monitor contractor cleanup performance on the gas line project before authorizing subsequent construction stages.
