Franklin Township Board Approves Contract for Dr. Jamal Maroon as Superintendent

The Franklin Township Board of Education voted June 4 to approve an employment contract with Dr. Jamal Maroon to serve as superintendent of Franklin Township Public Schools beginning Sept. 1, 2026, through June 30, 2031. The contract was read into the record as agenda item P1 and was designated confidential until the board's formal approval.

Board President opened the special meeting, read the Open Public Meetings Act statement and called the motion on P1. During roll call Mr. Demangio said he would "officially abstain," and the remaining members voted in favor, producing a majority sufficient to approve the contract.

Dr. Jamal Maroon, introduced by the board as the district's next superintendent, spoke to the audience after the vote. "I'm honored by your trust, humbled by your support, and excited to begin the work alongside of you," he said, thanking board members, administrators, community leaders — including Mayor Kramer — and his family. He related his personal background and said his first priority will be "listening and learning" from students, staff and families.

The board also announced that Dr. Dan Logger will serve as interim superintendent beginning July 1 to manage the district through the summer; he offered brief remarks thanking the board "for putting your trust in me." The board described the search as a multi‑month process that included consultant support, many applicants and multiple interview rounds.

Public comment at the meeting included congratulations from PTSO representative Deb Pillo, who welcomed Dr. Maroon and expressed excitement about the district's new leadership. Multiple board members praised outgoing Superintendent Dr. John Ravali for more than a decade of service and described the selection process as rigorous; Bill Grio and others highlighted the board's extended interview schedule and deliberations.

The approved contract covers the stated employment term and — according to the agenda language read at the meeting — remains confidential until made part of the minutes. Board members noted the district cabinet Dr. Maroon will join has substantial experience. The board took no other formal actions at the special meeting and then adjourned.

Next steps noted by board members included posting a video message from Dr. Maroon on the district website and offering opportunities for community members to meet him in person before his Sept. 1 start date.
