Austintown board adopts nuisance resolution ordering abatement for roughly 40 properties

The Board of Trustees adopted a nuisance-abatement resolution on June 1 that lists about 40 properties deemed public nuisances under Ohio Revised Code §505.87 for conditions including high grass, junk and debris.
The resolution (RES 26-06-01-05) directs property owners to abate or otherwise provide for abatement within seven days of adoption, or within four days for repeat violations occurring within 12 months; if owners do not comply the Township may perform abatement and enter any expenses, with a $500 minimum, upon the tax duplicate as a lien.
Trustee Bruce Shepas asked Zoning Inspector Dominic Moltchan to present the Township's "High Grass" enforcement procedure following the vote. Minutes indicate the board approved the resolution (Shepas moved; Deavers seconded) and that no motor vehicle nuisances were listed at this time.
The resolution in the minutes records parcel numbers and addresses for each property, and staff were directed to notify owners and proceed with abatement procedures if the owners fail to comply within the prescribed timeline. The minutes do not document appeals or individual responses from property owners during the meeting.
