Oak Brook Park District discusses license-plate recognition and Tennis Center business plan

At the Jan. 16 meeting district staff presented two communications items: a Tennis Center business plan and preliminary information on a license-plate recognition (LPR) system.
Alin Pop, Superintendent of Tennis Operations, said the Tennis Center has been conservative with expenses, has returned near pre-pandemic enrollment and plans operational projects for fiscal 2023–24. President Knitter encouraged the center to cultivate program instructors from within its existing assistant-coach staff to help with staffing shortages.
Robert Pechous, Superintendent of Communications and IT, reported he has been coordinating with the Village of Oak Brook to gather information about a proposed LPR system that could assist law enforcement. He said the district is exploring rental/leasing options, and the board discussed privacy issues. President Knitter said leasing would be preferable to purchasing because technology evolves rapidly; Commissioner Truedson asked for testimonials from both owners and leasers of similar systems.
No formal decision was made; staff will continue to gather vendor and operational information for future discussion.
