Board approves revised job descriptions for nutrition, operations, special education and CTE roles

The Petersburg City Public Schools board approved a slate of updated job descriptions at its June 17 meeting covering nutrition, operations, special education, and career-technical education.
Dr. Matias Greywood and Dr. Martinez explained changes for the nutrition department: the field service supervisor role will be retitled "service manager" to clarify on-site responsibilities, and the financial duties will move to a food services accounting specialist. "We just changed the title and then we just pretty much just added duties...we just shifted some of the duties to make it more efficient to our particular needs," Dr. Martinez said.
The board also approved a new business operations manager role to centralize several administrative tasks across operations, retaining transportation duties while adding HR and payroll support functions. Staff emphasized these changes do not create additional FTEs but re-describe and reassign existing responsibilities.
Director of Special Education Danny Costello presented a grant-funded special education instructional coordinator role (preK–5) supported by the IDEA proportionate set-aside (15% earmark), noting approximately $198,000 of set-aside funding to support targeted early-intervention services and reduce disproportionality in suspensions. Costello said the coordinator will work directly with students, teachers and principals in hands-on interventions.
The board also approved a part-time nursing instructor funded by Perkins/CTE grants to support clinical placements and meet licensure supervision ratios for nursing assistant certification.
Motions to approve the package of updated job descriptions carried; the superintendent recommended and the board approved the revisions as part of the FY2026–27 personnel and staffing plan. Staff said job descriptions will be published and that the board would be kept informed about recruitment and implementation details.
