The committee approved a request from police services to accept federal forfeiture funds from the U.S. Treasury and U.S. Department of Justice up to $600,000 for the year, citing prior receipts of roughly $590,000 in 2025 and about $502,000 in 2024.
The police chief said the figure is based on historical receipts and that the department would return for additional authority if actual seizures exceeded the estimate. ‘‘We're asking for up to $600,000,’’ the chief said, and staff clarified the amount is an estimate to cover anticipated forfeiture receipts during the contract term.
The committee voted to recommend approval of the acceptance authority (item 2026‑0957); the action will be processed under the county’s finance and acceptance procedures.
