The Kenowa Hills Board of Education’s Committee of the Whole on June 8 approved proposed millage rates for the 2026 tax year and adopted a consent agenda that recorded nearly $2.9 million in May expenditures and several personnel changes.
Member Hart moved and Member Roberts supported approval of the proposed non-home operating and debt millage levies for the 2026 tax year as outlined in Report #26-040; the motion carried 7-0. Director Long had earlier presented an overview of finance items on the meeting agenda, including the budget resolution and other items slated for action at the regular June board meeting.
The consent agenda — moved by Member Hart and supported by Member Gustinis — passed 6-1. The consent items included approval of the May 18, 2026 regular meeting minutes; the May 2026 check register, and a certified staff personnel report. The May 2026 check register recorded General Fund expenditures of $877,867.74 (checks #87151–87305), School Lunch Fund expenditures of $27,428.17 (checks #12157–12414), 2024 Athletic Bond expenditures of $1,722,245.46 (checks #107–110), 2020 Site and Building Series Bond expenditures of $248,139.71 (checks #11–14), and Student Activity expenditures of $10,705.95 (checks #97641–97657) for total May expenditures of $2,888,945.03.
The certified staff personnel report listed several resignations effective June 30, 2026 — including Sarah Kirby (Middle School English Language Arts), Macy Austin (Alpine Art), Shelby Brewer (Central 3rd Grade), and Derrick Fewless (MS/HS Health and PE) — and retirements including Raymond Byle (High School Science). The report also recorded a retirement withdrawal for Joseph Acker (High School Physical Education). The MHSAA membership resolution appeared on the consent agenda; Member Courtade stated she did not support excluding Pathways from that resolution and voted no on the consent motion.
Superintendent Hopkins acknowledged with appreciation the individuals and organizations that donated to the district, and board members reported on recent district events. The board listed future meeting dates: a regular meeting on June 22, 2026, a Committee of the Whole workshop on Aug. 10, and a regular meeting on Aug. 24.
The Committee of the Whole meeting was called to order at 6:38 p.m. and adjourned at 9:06 p.m.
