Parks and Recreation Director Sherri Proud presented concept renderings and exterior preferences for Coralville's planned Community Recreation Center and Natatorium, saying the design will emphasize the City of Coralville and coral themes and prioritize color, wood tones, daylight and human-scale features. Proud said the project team will hold a public open house on April 14 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at City Hall to review schematic design.
Proud told the council that eight firms responded to the request for qualifications and that a selection committee made up of City staff, representatives from the Iowa City Community School District and the architecture firm Neumann Monson will screen qualifications and review proposals. She said the same committee will evaluate proposals and that staff hopes to issue the request for proposals on April 2.
The presentation focused on exterior materials and site-level landscaping rather than budget or construction phasing. Proud's overview set the next public-facing step as the April 14 open house, where residents can review schematics and offer feedback. After the presentation Proud left the meeting.
