Council awards Heartland–Commerce roundabout contract to low bidder Midwest Concrete

City Engineer Scott Larson told the council on March 24 that five bids were received for the Heartland Drive and Commerce Drive roundabout; Midwest Concrete, Inc. submitted the low bid of $1,299,000 compared with an engineer's estimate of $1,448,000 and a high bid of $1,673,000. Larson noted Midwest Concrete previously worked with the city and recommended awarding the contract to that firm.
Council adopted resolutions to accept bids and award the contract, and then approved the contract and bond documents. Staff noted Midwest Concrete has performed similar municipal work in the region and will be responsible for construction per the contract terms.
