Willingboro Township introduced amendments to its 2026 municipal budget on June 16. Finance staff said the revised plan reduced the estimated average household increase from an earlier near‑9% projection to roughly $167.73 per household (an estimated 6.06% increase) following state recommendations and internal adjustments.
The treasurer highlighted the drivers behind the increase: an approximate 18% rise in health‑insurance costs and a roughly 4–5% increase in police and fire pension obligations. Staff also noted $100,000 of the amendment was earmarked for additional public‑works staffing to strengthen operations including snow and street maintenance.
Council approved introduction of the amended budget for final review by the Division of Local Government Services; the administration said the amended budget will be submitted to the state for final approval and council plans to adopt a final budget at the July meeting.
What residents should know: officials provided examples of how the increase scales with assessed value: a home assessed at $161,363 (the budget’s used average) was estimated to see the $167.73 increase; higher assessed values produce proportionally larger increases (for example, an assessed value of $225,000 would approximate $233.87). Finance said the assessed values used are budgetary figures, not a market appraisal.
