The Franklin Conservation Commission approved a Minor Buffer Zone Activity (MBZA) on June 18 to allow National Grid to replace a single utility pole and install a new midspan pole on the west side of Pleasant Street, north of the Miller Street intersection.
Nate Gothie of LEC Environmental presented the project and confirmed the existing pole (P68) is about 65 feet from bordering vegetated wetland (BVW) and the new midspan pole sits within riverfront area. Gothie said all equipment and staging are expected to remain within the paved right‑of‑way and that erosion controls will use silt sock rather than straw wattle, consistent with recent commission preferences.
Commissioner Michael Ryan moved to approve the MBZA; the motion passed by voice vote. Gothie said the anticipated start date is fall and committed to staying within the right‑of‑way and meeting the agreed erosion‑control measures.
What happens next: the applicant may schedule field work in the fall; the commission will expect the project to conform to the approved erosion controls and staging plan.
