Valparaiso trustees approve subdivision, building permits, cybersecurity plan and two resolutions; adopt monthly bills

The Valparaiso Board of Trustees approved a series of routine but binding items at its Aug. 8 meeting.
Trustee Zwiener moved to allow a lot split on B Street between Pine and Oak after a presentation by Karen Brightenburg; Trustee Turnwall seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Trustees then considered three building permits—Thompson (greenhouse), Potter (fence) and Zwiener (garden shed). Trustee Turnwall moved to approve all three permits; Trustee Draper seconded. The vote was recorded as 4 yeas (Draper, Homes, Turnwall, Wilson) with Trustee Zwiener abstaining; the motion carried.
Trustee Nick Wilson presented a CyberSecurity plan for the village's computers. Trustee Turnwall moved to adopt the plan as recommended by Wilson; Trustee Zwiener seconded and the board voted unanimously to approve it.
Zito presented Resolution 2023-4 regarding the village cable television system. Trustee Wilson recommended reinstating section 18 or adding an additional fee to cover it; Chairperson Dan Homes moved to approve the resolution with that recommendation and Trustee Zwiener seconded. The board approved Resolution 2023-4. Trustees also approved Resolution 2023-5, the municipal annual certification of program compliance, on a motion from Trustee Draper and a second from Chairperson Homes.
Aaron Pierce presented a VABA report listing repair and improvement items; trustees directed the Parks Board to work with VABA and return with recommendations. Consideration of skidloader and bucket upgrades was tabled until the next meeting. Chairperson Homes moved and Trustee Turnwall seconded to advance village employee Nick Sander's vacation by one week; that motion passed unanimously.
Trustee Turnwall moved to approve the month's bills (Sewer Fund, Operations & Maintenance, Library Fund); Trustee Zwiener seconded and the board approved the bills. Notable line items included payroll ($14,018.77) and a $16,800 sewer-project charge to Miller & Associates. Chairperson Homes adjourned the meeting at 8:21 PM.
