The Oak Creek Common Council adopted an ordinance June 16 to add paragraph 20 to subsection 10.41.A of the municipal code, prohibiting vehicles from vending, pedalling, soliciting or otherwise conducting sales from specified places in the right‑of‑way.
Christy Lane, Community Development Director, said the provision is intended to address safety and property‑use concerns created by vending vehicles—commonly food trucks—operating in the public right‑of‑way. Lane noted the ordinance text was revised after packet publication to add the phrase "except as otherwise may be provided" so that licensed transient merchant arrangements and special events (for example, food trucks in Drexel Town Square under a permit) remain possible.
Councilors approved Ordinance 3160 by roll call. Lane said enforcement belongs in Chapter 10 (parking and vehicle regulation) and that the added exception accommodates temporary licensed activities and events.
Why it matters: The ordinance gives the city a code‑based enforcement mechanism to limit vending vehicles in specified parts of the right‑of‑way while preserving flexibility for permitted, licensed or special‑event activity.
Next steps: The revised ordinance language will be enforced per Chapter 10 procedures; staff and licensing may coordinate on permitting for transient merchants and events.
