Fairfield awards north water-line project to Strong Solutions; arsenic testing done before bidding

Mayor Hollie McKinney reported that approximately 20 to 25 contractors attended the mandatory pre‑bid walkthrough for the North Water Line Extension. Bids were submitted through the state bidding system and Bowen Collins & Associates prepared a comparative bid analysis. The project was awarded to Strong Solutions and McKinney said the project came in under budget.
McKinney said arsenic testing was conducted before bidding so contractors would have accurate remediation and disposal information, which produced more accurate bids and will become standard practice for future waterline projects. Construction was already underway at the time of the meeting and crews were tying the new line into the existing system, including connections near Bradshaw’s property. Councilman Tyler Thomas asked about pressure improvements; McKinney said the extension is expected to improve flow rates more than static pressure and that longer-term pressure gains depend on additional looping and system upgrades.
