BLACK JACK, Mo. — The Black Jack City Council on May 5 read certified results from the April 2 election, administered oaths to newly elected council members and elected Councilman Rodney Grady as president pro tem.
Mayor Arnold Hinkle read certified results provided by the St. Louis County Board of Election Commissioners, listing vote totals for Rochelle Gray, Donald Krank, Angela Lawson, Jeannette Johnson and Ronald Pointer and reporting citywide turnout of approximately 19.14 percent. Judge Nicole Colbert-Botchway then administered the oaths of office to Rochelle Gray, Angela Lawson, Jeannette Johnson and Ronald Pointer.
After a brief recess and reconvening at 7:33 p.m., Councilman Miller nominated Councilman Rodney Grady to continue as president pro tem; the motion was seconded and the council polled on the nomination. The recorded votes were: Councilwoman Rochelle Gray, yes; Councilwoman Thames, yes; Councilman Miller, yes; Councilwoman Angela Lawson, yes; Councilman Rodney Grady, abstained; Councilman Ronald Pointer, yes; Councilwoman James, yes; Councilwoman Jeannette Johnson, yes. The poll produced seven yes votes and one abstention, electing Grady president pro tem.
The meeting’s certified results reading and the oaths complete the administrative steps following the April election. No additional actions were taken on election certification during the session. The council moved on to other business after the pro-tem election.
