Council discusses proposed change to trash pickup time; tables decision pending Republic manager's appearance
Summary
Republic Services requested moving pickup from 7 a.m. to 6 a.m.; council members raised concerns about residents setting materials out overnight, wind/animals, noise and truck reliability. Council agreed to defer action and ask the operations manager to attend the July 7 meeting for discussion.

The council discussed a request from Republic Services to shift residential trash and recycling pickup from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Staff relayed that the local operations manager asked for the earlier start to help complete heavier routes.
Council members debated likely resident behavior (many put materials out the night before), wind and animal disturbance of curbside materials, and whether a noise ordinance would constrain earlier morning pickup. Some members suggested a trial or asking Republic to explain operational drivers for the change. Others noted that if reliability problems exist, those are the contractor’s responsibility.
Rather than decide the issue on the spot, council agreed to invite Matt Pivot, Republic Services’ local operations manager, to the July 7 meeting (or to call in) so members can ask questions and consider a trial or formal change with more information. No formal policy change or ordinance amendment was adopted.
