Walker High fishing team, Holden High state champions honored by Livingston Parish School Board

The Livingston Parish School Board paused routine business to recognize student athletic accomplishments from two parish high schools.
Board member Jeff Cox honored the Walker High School fishing team for qualifying five teams for the state championship and for having two teams qualify for the national tournament. A Walker representative explained tournament structure — state qualifiers, trails and the state championship where team totals determine the top school award — and noted the state championship win that yielded national bids.
Mr. Sharp recognized Holden High student-athletes. Coach White detailed standout performances by Molly Babin, noting she is a four-time state champion in powerlifting, a former U.S. national champion in her class and holds East Regional records; he also highlighted Gerardo Cervantes’ state meet performances (triple jump champion, multiple placings). The board presented certificates and applause to the students and coaches.
