Principal highlights student growth, outlines master-schedule and weekly progress-monitoring plan

The LaCrosse School District principal told the board May 18 that end-of-year test results show notable growth in several grade cohorts and outlined a plan to use weekly progress monitoring and master-schedule changes to sustain and expand those gains.
"We have all fives and fours, no three ones in so they did some great growth," the principal said while summarizing kindergarten growth and other grade-level results, and reported a cohort moving from the 79th percentile to the 94th percentile by spring testing. The principal advised members that while some grades showed strong gains, middle grades needed additional work and that a single new student can materially affect cohort results.
As a response the administration plans to make progress monitoring routine next year, especially in Title-funded classrooms, and to reconfigure the secondary master schedule to provide one period each of ELA, math and intervention rather than the previous configuration. The principal also described planned semester offerings (health, food science) and said staff will use aides to support intervention blocks.
The principal read an email from a community member praising student behavior at a public event and said report cards and student portal logins will be sent to families. Staff said they will distribute detailed test-score materials to board members for review at their convenience.
The board received the report and was invited to follow up with questions; no vote was required.
