Irene Dagesse briefed the Select Board on financial pressures at the Solid Waste district, telling members that commodity prices for recyclables have fallen, the district has reduced staff and has implemented some fee increases.
To help cover the high cost of Hazardous Waste Day, the district proposed charging $10 per box and implementing per-gallon charges for flammable liquids. Dagesse said she would prefer to keep Hazardous Waste Day free but judged the proposed fees necessary under current budget conditions and said she would keep the board informed about further developments.
No board action on the Solid Waste proposals was recorded at the meeting.
