The council had convened in closed session under the exemption in Wisconsin Statute §19.85(1)(g) to confer with legal counsel on litigation strategy related to the license.
The action followed a quasi‑judicial licensing hearing held June 8, 2026, the findings and conclusions from which were presented by the Licensing, Hearing and Public Safety Committee. The council’s motion accepted those committee findings and effected the non‑renewal; the committee’s report and the council motion together served as the basis for the council’s formal action.
City Attorney remarks during the earlier motion to suspend and later to convene closed session explained that the closed session was permitted under Wis. Stat. §19.85(1)(g) when discussing legal strategy. The council reconvened in open session at approximately 6:21 p.m. and immediately moved on the licensing item.
No dissenting votes were recorded. The council adjourned shortly after adopting the non‑renewal.
