County awards $796,295 restroom contract for Berkeley Park, approves $83,637 change order and accepts $10,000 youth sports grant

At the May 4 meeting the Henderson County Board of Commissioners approved construction and grant actions tied to Berkeley Park and youth sports.
The board awarded a construction contract to Ryse Construction for $796,295 to build restroom facilities at the Henderson County Sports Complex at Berkeley Park; staff said the proposal was within the project budget. The board also approved Change Order #6 to Tennoca Construction Company in the amount of $83,637.25 to accommodate USTA‑required tennis court revisions and additional storm/site plan changes; staff indicated the change order will be funded by U.S. Tennis Association grants totaling $205,000 received for the project.
Separately, the Recreation Department reported receipt of a $10,000 Youth Sports Grant from North Carolina Amateur Sports to purchase soccer goals and nets; the board approved accepting the grant and the related budget amendment to recognize the revenue and budget the purchase.
The consent agenda contained several other facility and donation items, but the board specifically noted the Berkeley Park contract award was within the previously authorized project budget and that the tennis revisions were funded by outside grant dollars.
Next steps: staff will execute the Ryse Construction contract, process the Tennoca change order using the USTA grant funds, and complete procurement for the soccer equipment under the $10,000 grant.
