Donor offers to fund customized activities bus; board accepts donation in principle

A community donor representative presented to the Kent City Schools Board of Education on June 16 with an offer to fund a customized activities bus for district use. Donor representative Dave said the project would encourage extracurricular participation by providing a higher-end activities bus for athletics, clubs and other student transportation needs.
"If you would agree to it, we would…raise the funds by selling named seats at $2,500 apiece and invest proceeds to cover future expenses," Dave said, describing a fundraising goal that he estimated at roughly $130,000 and noting the need to work out tax-deductibility and agreement details.
Board members voiced appreciation and moved the donation from discussion into action for a vote later in the meeting. In the action-item packet, the board approved a packet of 13 donations and specifically accepted the proposed customized bus donation in principle, granting staff permission to negotiate and seek a signed agreement with the donor and Mr. Abda (the donor referenced in the presentation).
The board’s acceptance was a procedural approval of the donation offer and did not include a finalized contract or detailed terms such as ownership, long-term insurance, tax- deductibility, or operating-cost responsibilities. Staff said those details would be worked out with the donor and returned to the board for final approval once a formal agreement is drafted.
The board thanked the donor for the offer and directed staff to coordinate next steps.
