The St. Louis Park City Council on June 15 approved a resolution appointing 38 residents to a range of advisory boards and commissions following a multi-night interview process.
Councilmember Brosnan read the appointment roster into the record. The appointments cover the Community Technology Advisory Commission, Environment and Sustainability Commission, Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission, Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals, Human Rights Commission, Police Advisory Commission, the Fire Civil Service Commission and the Housing Authority. The council noted there were 71 applicants for 38 seats; city staff and council panels conducted interviews over several nights to compile recommendations.
Examples of appointees listed by the council included Benjamin Strauss and Elsa Anderson (Community Technology Advisory Commission); Jose Nieves Soto (Housing Authority); Derek Reese and Natalie Wagner (Environment and Sustainability Commission); Bruce Canter and Rachel Snee (Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission); and a reappointment of Robert Tift to the Fire Civil Service Commission. The council encouraged those not appointed to reapply; full appointment lists are included in the meeting minutes and the city’s posted packet.
Councilmembers applauded the applicant pool and described strong youth interest in advisory roles. The council approved the resolution by voice vote.
