Valparaiso trustees renew insurance, approve bills and set website launch

The Village of Valparaiso Board of Trustees on June 13, 2023 voted unanimously to renew the village insurance policy, approved routine bills across multiple funds, and discussed several operational updates including a planned website launch and continued water meter installation.
Ben Spark of Jones Bank Insurance presented the upcoming policy renewal and outlined increases and areas of savings. Trustee Kim Turnwall moved to renew the policy as presented; Trustee Wilson seconded and the motion carried with all trustees voting yea.
The board approved the minutes from its May 9 meeting after a motion from Trustee Wilson and a second from Trustee Draper. Later the board reviewed and approved bills drawn from the sewer, operations, general and library funds, including line items such as payroll and vendor payments; Trustee Turnwall moved to approve the bills and Chairperson Dan Homes seconded.
Library director Carrie Trutna reported 111 visitors in May, noted that interns have begun for the summer and said the library applied to attend the Rural & Small Library Association; the library will conduct a patron survey to assess needs and hours. In public forum, John Kliment submitted a suggestion urging the village to pursue measures to slow traffic on Blaine Street. Cleanup day staff reported an increase in paint and siding drop-offs.
Trustee Wilson said the village website will be active by month-end, working with NPPD staff. Supervisor Nick Sanders reported 225 automatic water meter readers have been installed with 75 remaining to be installed.
Chairperson Dan Homes moved to adjourn at 8:20 p.m.; Trustee Turnwall seconded and the meeting closed.
