Van Buren supervisors approve generator contract, ambulance fund transfer, liens and hire a dispatcher

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 27 approved a series of administrative and financial actions, including a maintenance contract for county equipment, a transfer from the ambulance fund to the county hospital, placement of six special‑assessment liens and a personnel appointment.
On a motion by Supervisor House, seconded by Supervisor Waugh, the board authorized Chairman Meek to sign a three‑year preventative maintenance agreement with Interstate Power Systems for annual service of the Annex generator. The contract includes a one‑time charge for replacement of batteries and an electrical inspection during 2025. The motion passed on a 3‑0 vote.
Supervisor Waugh moved and Supervisor House seconded authorization for the county treasurer to transfer $178,101.84 from the county hospital ambulance fund (Fund #72000) to Van Buren County Hospital per the hospital’s Oct. 20, 2025 request; the board recorded the amount as the June 30, 2025 balance in the operations portion of Fund #72000. The motion passed on a 3‑0 vote.
The board also authorized the county treasurer to place special‑assessment liens for delinquent sewer accounts in the former city of Mt. Sterling. The six properties and assessed amounts were recorded as follows: Samuel & Meghan Boley — $145.24; Cresten Downey — $145.24; IAT 56 LLC/Perez — $145.24; Gary Shelton — $145.24; John Smith — $142.95; Nicole Trout — $145.24. The motion passed on a 3‑0 vote.
Upon recommendation of the county sheriff, the board appointed Leslie Payne of Burlington as a full‑time dispatcher/jailer, effective Nov. 3, 2025, at a starting salary of $22.92 per hour. The motion was made by Supervisor Waugh and seconded by Supervisor House; the vote was 3‑0 in favor.
The board approved payroll (checks #48880–48961), a handwritten ACH claim (#4462), and claims (#4463–4511) including Secondary Roads claims (#31218–31239). Supervisors also reported on committee meetings (SIRG, SIDCA, 10‑15 Transit, Heartland Insurance Risk Pool) and met with department heads to review proposed updates to the Van Buren County Employee Handbook. The meeting adjourned at 10:23 a.m.
