Bend MPO updates MTIP to add 1.5 miles of multi‑use path along US‑97

The Bend MPO Policy Board on June 18 approved a full amendment to the 2024–27 Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program to update ODOT project 23735 (US‑97, Village Way to Lava Butte) and add additional multi‑use path scope.
Kelly, the staff presenter, told the board the amendment "does not change the funding" and instead updates the project description to include construction of an additional 1.5 miles of multi‑use path parallel to US‑97 from Knot Road toward the High Desert Museum. Staff said the northern segment was moved into the existing paving project to allow an additional year to coordinate with Bend Parks & Rec on connections and potential funding for an undercrossing at Knot Road.
Commissioner Phil Chang moved approval of the amendment; Councilor Mike Riley seconded. The board voted unanimously to adopt the amendment.
Staff and board members discussed timeline and staging: phase one construction is scheduled for 2027 with the follow‑on section the next year; the amendment’s scope change is intended to improve connectivity in the corridor while providing time to pursue grants and coordinate easements with Parks and Rec. ODOT will deliver the project in coordination with local partners and update the MTIP project list and amendment log as required.
Next steps: staff will post the revised MTIP description to the MTIP webpage and carry the project into project delivery coordination with ODOT and city partners.
