During the director’s report on June 16 the Director highlighted early summer activity and service changes at the Muskego City Library.
She said the library registered about 250 people at a recent event and that “as of today at noon, we had over 1,500 people register for summer,” noting the library is on track to exceed last year’s numbers. The Director described a prize lineup for children’s programming and an upcoming animal program intended to draw families.
On circulation technology the Director said the library has begun circulating Bluetooth adapters called Airfly to allow Playaway devices and other audio equipment to connect to patrons’ Bluetooth systems. “One of the things we did right at the end of last year was we started circulating Bluetooth CD players...so we bought those and we're seeing how that affects circulation,” she said. Staff reported Playaway compatibility is now supported by the adapters so patrons without aux ports or older CD players can still access audio materials.
Facilities updates included a fresh pipe burst at an outdoor spigot serving the children’s program room; staff reported the repair company was contacted and the director said they are seeking warranty coverage for the failure. The Director also said a hearing‑loop unit has arrived and Clayton and Jake are coordinating installation that will require carpeting work and a day of concentrated labor. Additionally, IT staff have begun Wi‑Fi signal mapping (NetSpot) to identify weak coverage areas and evaluate whether boosters or higher speeds are required.
The board heard a brief update on computers that had been intermittently shutting off; IT determined a bad memory core in a batch was the cause, machines were sent to the manufacturer and repaired under warranty, and the library has largely returned to full service.
The Director closed by noting the library’s cafe app contract is out for rebid and Bridges will announce the vendor decision the following day; staff said the change may require patron retraining if a new vendor is selected.
