Van Buren supervisors certify Nov. 4 city and school election results

Chairman Mark G. Meek said the board, acting as the ex-officio Board of Canvassers, reviewed the canvass materials and found no obvious clerical errors before approving the certification on a 3-0 roll call vote. The resolution records turnout figures of 645 votes cast at the polls on election day, 64 absentee ballots accepted for counting and zero provisional ballots, for a total of 709 votes.
The certification cites compliance with section 50.24 of the Code of Iowa and lists the candidates elected in the county’s municipalities, including Melissa Mahon as Keosauqua mayor and Heather Pilcher as Birmingham mayor. Other named winners in the resolution include city council and mayoral winners across Birmingham, Bonaparte, Cantril, Farmington, Keosauqua, Milton and Stockport as recorded by the board.
The board’s motion also authorized the county auditor to submit certified abstracts and canvass summaries to the appropriate control county auditors for each affected school district, as required by state procedures. The motion passed unanimously.
The board did not identify any clerical errors during the canvass; the certification becomes part of the official election record for the county.
