Fort Mojave Mesa reports station completion, donations and hiring progress; board directs counsel on chief’s contract

District staff gave several operational updates at the May 19 meeting, including the near-completion of Station 91, private donations to support new facilities and progress on firefighter hiring.
Deputy Chief John Clark told the board Station 91 renovation is 98% finished and crews moved back in the prior Friday; an open house is planned for mid-June. Clark also noted Honeywell donated approximately $60,000 worth of G2 alerting-system equipment for the new station and that a nearby developer agreed to contribute $40,000 toward landscaping.
Assistant Chief Kevin Smith briefed the board on staffing and training. The initial firefighter testing round concluded and 20 candidates were scheduled for in-person interviews May 20–June 2, with subsequent chief interviews and offers to follow. Smith also reviewed ambulance revenue, reporting April revenue of $175,843.65 and year-to-date ambulance revenue of $1.605 million, which met the District’s revenue target.
Separately, the board met in executive session to discuss employment matters concerning Kevin Smith’s contract. After exiting the closed session, the board voted to direct the attorney to proceed as discussed in executive session; the board did not disclose contract terms in open session.
