Fort Mohave Mesa Board OKs $142,000 Realignment for Station 91, Approves Roof Replacement

The Fort Mohave Mesa Fire District Board voted Jan. 27 to realign $142,000 in district funds to cover remaining costs tied to the Station 91 rebuild and to replace the administration-side roof.
Deputy Chief John Clark told the board that unforeseen infrastructure issues discovered when the floor was removed, plus furnishing and equipment needs, required additional funding. Staff requested $92,000 from Account 1809 (Unassigned Funds) and $50,000 from Account 1801 (Phase II Loan Proceeds). Clark said previously approved change orders total about $35,000 — less than 2% of the project budget — and that a grant-funded change for a recharge room had already been accounted for.
The board approved the realignment on a unanimous roll call vote. Public attendee Keith Parker questioned who served as project manager and whether some change orders were necessary; Clark and Fire Chief Chris Pardi responded during discussion about project oversight and the age of the original structure, noting the building was constructed in 1986 when county inspections and modern codes did not apply.
Separately, Chief Clark presented three bids to replace the 25-year-old roof on the station’s administrative side. District Manager Tracey Petrisko said the work would be paid for from an ARPA grant previously awarded to the district that must be spent and has no additional restrictions. The board awarded the contract to Desert Canyon Enterprise for $21,486 on a 4–1 vote (Sher Voelker voted Nay).
Clark said construction progress on Station 91 has been steady: Phase I drywall is complete, stucco has been encased, low-voltage wiring is roughly 50–75% complete, and ductwork, mezzanine and apparatus bay ceilings are installed. Staff estimated the project would finish a couple of weeks into April.
The board’s approvals authorize staff to proceed with the realignment and the contracted roof work; no additional votes were recorded on contractor selection or further change orders at the meeting.
