The Forest Hills Board of Education on June 3 called a special meeting, approved minutes from its previous meeting by voice vote, moved into a closed session under "MCL 152681A," and, after returning to open session, announced it had evaluated Superintendent Kirby as "effective."
The Chair opened the meeting, led routine business including a motion and second to approve minutes that the board adopted on a voice vote, and announced there were no attendees for public comment so that item was skipped. A motion and a second were then made to move into a closed session "pursuant to MCL 152681A," followed by a roll-call in which members answered in the affirmative. The board subsequently returned to open session.
Upon reconvening, the Chair thanked Superintendent Kirby for participating in the evaluation process and told Kirby, "we have evaluated you as effective. So congratulations, keep up the excellent work." The board asked whether anyone wished to add to the evaluation discussion; none did. The Chair then turned the meeting to the superintendent's report.
Superintendent Kirby thanked the board for support and for regular quarterly conversations, saying those check-ins and the two-way communication have been helpful. Kirby stated, "Tomorrow's last day, last day with students and so the excitement is high and staff is ready for a break. Kids are ready for their summer activities and we're planning for opening day next year," and noted the board would be presented a calendar for approval at the next meeting.
The Chair said there were no additional board communications and, with no other business raised, adjourned the meeting.
Votes and formal actions taken at the meeting included adoption of prior minutes by voice vote and a motion to enter closed session, which was approved on roll call. No public comments were recorded at the meeting.
