The Martin County Board of Commissioners on March 13 unanimously accepted a $750,000 Community Development Block Grant—Neighborhood Revitalization (CDBG‑NR) to fund housing improvements for owner‑occupied low‑ and moderate‑income homes and related infrastructure work.
County Manager David Bone and Finance Director Cindy Ange told the board the program will use the county’s existing applicant database, third‑party housing inspections and a Housing Selection Committee to identify eligible owner‑occupied homes for repair or replacement. Bone said the program would not require a local match (though the county previously approved an $8,000 local match during earlier application steps).
The board approved the grant agreement, adopted the program budget and authorized the county manager to execute contracts for program management and housing services necessary to administer the CDBG‑NR award. Finance Director Cindy Ange presented the proposed budget and staff recommended the county contract for program management and housing services to manage applicant selection and inspections.
Why it matters: CDBG‑NR grants are targeted to rehabilitate or replace substandard owner‑occupied housing and to support infrastructure that enables those housing activities. Martin County plans to use inspectors and a multi‑member Housing Selection Committee to vet units and ensure selected homes meet low‑ and moderate‑income eligibility rules.
