Board renames industrial park to 'North Carolina Rail & Commerce Park'

The Martin County Board of Commissioners on April 10 voted to rename the Martin County Regional Business Park the “North Carolina Rail & Commerce Park.”
Jason Semple, president and CEO of the Martin County Economic Development Corporation, described a stakeholder workshop and market-driven naming exercise that emphasized rail access and commerce-oriented branding. A brainstorming group recommended a name that would perform well in site-selection searches and highlight rail access, a key competitive advantage for the park.
The MCEDC board previously approved up to $9,500 for website creation and branding content; Edgecombe-Martin Electric Membership Corporation representatives indicated they would consider contributing to the cost. Commissioner Ronnie Smith said rail access sets the county apart, while Vice Chairman Dempsey Bond asked that airport information be included among the park’s advantages.
Commissioner Smith made the motion to approve the rebranding and Commissioner Joe R. Ayers seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The board asked staff and MCEDC to proceed with vendor selection and website development to support business recruitment.
